''In Hitler's Germany, a Lutheran pastor chooses resistance and pays with his life. . . Eric Metaxas tells Bonhoeffer's story with passion and theological sophistication, often challenging revisionist accounts that make Bonhoeffer out to be a 'humanist' or ethicist for whom religious doctrine was easily disposable. . . Metaxas reminds us that there are forms of religion -- respectable, domesticated, timid -- that may end up doing the devil's work for him. --Wall Street Journal
Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet Spy
by Eric Metaxas
Thomas Nelson / 2010

I heartily endorse this book. It is a page turner. One is thrown into the era, the complexities, and the challenges that Bonhoeffer faced as he remained true to his Christian convictions and yet had to make some very tough decisions when faced with evil. This book is not an academic treatment of the subject - nor does it claim to be. It is light - punctuated with a sense of humour that only Metaxas can provide. Well written, engaging and forceful in its presentation of truly one of the great characters of conscience in the 20th Century. I'd give it a 10/10 - worth the read.
